Motto:
University is a community of scholars and students
(lat. Universitas magistrorum et scholarium).
I warmly welcome to the website of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, University of Zielona Góra, where each visitor can find essential information about our activities.
Briefly speaking, our Faculty is based on two pillars: education at all three levels (both in Polish and English) and high-level scientific research. The learning process is based on the creative and innovative teaching methods, preparing competent and comprehensively educated graduates. We want the diploma of our Faculty to be recognized by potential employers which will help building positive relationships with the scientific and economic environments. As far as our scientific activity is concerned, it is notably funded by various research grants. Moreover, it is based on a broad cooperation, both international and national, resulting in numerous publications in significant international journals and a growing scientific recognition.
Our individualized learning approach in small groups is beneficial for students allowing them optimize their academic performance. A large group of professors in the department implies keeping the traditional master-pupil relationship. Moreover, the process of education is supported by very open and creative assistant professors. The department, trying to keep up with the needs of the labor market, in addition to the traditional fields of physics and astronomy, has increased the educational offer by medical physics and space engineering. Our graduates acquire knowledge in equipment handling and learn skills for mass data processing and their analysis, which helps them to find employment. Doctoral programs at the Faculty are problem-solving oriented and enable PhD students to make contacts with universities and research institutes worldwide.
For many years the Faculty has been actively supporting the old academic tradition of sharing knowledge directed to a wide range of audience. This is confirmed by our commitment to the Science Festival organized annually by the University of Zielona Gora and special seminars popularizing science organized by the department faculty, called "Wszechnica 106", where all young people (and all willing) are regularly invited. Our scientists, together with teachers of middle schools and high schools, work with a talented youth.
Come and visit us, there is always room for new ideas!
